Drive to Corderry

Step onto the Beara-Breifne Way

ven more uniquely, guests at Corderry Farm can join the historic Beara-Breifne Way measuring 500km, right from our land. This national long-distance trail — Ireland’s longest — follows in the footsteps of Donal Cam O’Sullivan Beare, offering a truly immersive walking experience through history, heritage, and breathtaking scenery.

The Beara- Breifne way follows the 14 day march across the country in 1603 by Dónal Cam O’Sullivan Beare and and his 1,000 supporters. O’Sullivan Beare was one of the last Irish chieftains/kings, and after losing his lands and castle at Dunboy to Queen Elizabeth I, he and his followers fled from the Beara Peninsula, travelling 500km north. On this journey they were attacked many times, while also contending with starvation and the freezing cold winter weather conditions, having started marching on New Years Eve. After the 14 days, only 35 people arrived to Leitrim safely, with many having been killed, fallen ill or deserting to join other villages along the way.

To have such a major trail begin right at your doorstep here at Corderry Farm is a rarity and a real highlight for walkers and endurance runners alike. Whether you’re doing a section or simply soaking in the story behind it, it’s a connection to Ireland’s landscape you won’t forget.
