Corderry Dolmens – A Hidden Treasure of Ancient Ireland
Two Ancient Dolmens. One Farm. A Journey Through Time.
Tucked away on our peaceful hillside farm, Corderry Dolmens offer a rare and magical experience — two ancient megalithic monuments just a short, scenic 20-minute on-farm walk from the cottage.
Dolmens are among the oldest structures in the world, dating back as far as 6000 BC. Shrouded in mystery, they’ve been called tombs, altars, and gateways to the Otherworld. While Ireland is home to many, few are as privately and beautifully placed as these.
Explore Corderry Wedge Tomb & Portal Dolmen
Perched at the top of Corderry Hill, the Portal Dolmen overlooks the Glen of Aherlow — a breathtaking spot that seems chosen for its commanding view. A little lower lies the Corderry Wedge Tomb, built around 3000 BC, its stone chamber aligned with the setting sun. Once covered in stone, now partly reclaimed by nature, it still whispers of the ancient hands that built it.
A Place of Story, Spirit, and Stone
In Irish folklore, dolmens are homes of fairies and ancient kings — places of power and mystery. Some say disturbing them brings bad luck; others believe they connect this world to the next.
What’s certain is their timeless pull. These stones speak of a people who lived with the land, marked the sky, and left behind a legacy we’re still trying to understand
